TAPE-IN CARE

HOW DO I CARE FOR TAPE-INS?

Oil-free products and gentle handling keep the tape secure and the hair beautiful.

BRUSHING

Brush twice daily with a soft-bristle brush or loop brush. Tape-ins can tangle if not brushed regularly, especially at the panel lines.

Start at the ends and work your way up. When you reach the taped panels, hold the hair just above them and brush downward to avoid pulling on the adhesive.

Be gentle around the tapes. Never brush directly through the panels or pull upward — this can loosen the adhesive and cause slipping.

WASHING

Wash 2-3 times per week with sulfate-free, oil-free shampoo. Oil-based products break down the tape adhesive and cause the panels to slip.

Wash your hair vertically in the shower. Don't flip your head upside down — this tangles the hair at the panels and puts stress on the tape.

Be gentle around the taped areas. Shampoo your scalp carefully without scrubbing or pulling at the panels. Wash the length of the hair normally.

Apply conditioner to mid-length and ends only. Never apply conditioner near the tape — it can weaken the adhesive and cause slipping.

DRYING

Gently squeeze excess water out with a towel. Don't rub, twist, or wrap tightly — tape-ins tangle easily when handled roughly while wet.

Let air dry when possible. If blow-drying, use medium heat and brush as you dry to keep the panels smooth and prevent tangling.

Never go to bed with wet tape-ins. Wet hair creates friction against the pillow, which can loosen the tape and cause matting.

STYLING

You can use heat tools on the extension hair. Always use heat protectant spray and avoid applying direct heat to the taped panels.

Use only oil-free styling products. Check ingredient lists carefully — even "light" serums and leave-in conditioners often contain oils that break down tape.

Keep products away from the roots and taped areas. Apply styling products to mid-lengths and ends only to protect the adhesive.

WHAT TO AVOID

Oil-based products — including coconut oil, argan oil, and oil-infused shampoos/conditioners. These dissolve the tape adhesive.

Sulfates and alcohol — dry out extension hair and can affect tape grip.

Sleeping with wet hair — causes tangling and weakens the tape.

Pulling or tugging on panels — avoid brushing through the taped areas or styling too aggressively near the attachments.

Chlorine and salt water without rinsing — rinse immediately after swimming to protect both the hair and the adhesive.

RE-TAPE MAINTENANCE

Keep your re-tape appointments every 6-8 weeks. As your natural hair grows, the panels grow down and need fresh adhesive.

If you notice any panels slipping or feeling loose, reach out immediately. Don't wait until your scheduled appointment — early intervention prevents damage.

The hair itself can be reused multiple times. You're just replacing the tape, not buying new extension hair each time.
