SEATTLE HAIR EXTENSIONS @_westside_style_
MAINTENANCE

HOW LONG DO EXTENSIONS LAST?

It depends on the type — and how well you maintain them.

BY EXTENSION TYPE

Keratin bond extensions last 4-6 months before removal. You can reuse the same hair if it's still in good condition. Most clients get 2-3 installs from one set of hair.

Hand-sewn wefts need move-up appointments every 6-8 weeks as your hair grows. The extension hair itself lasts 1 year or longer with proper care. You're only paying for the move-up service, not new hair each time.

Tape-in extensions also need move-ups every 6-8 weeks. The hair can be reused multiple times — typically 6-8 months before needing replacement.

✦

WHAT AFFECTS LIFESPAN

Hair quality matters. High-quality human hair (like what we use) lasts longer and looks better throughout its lifespan than synthetic or lower-grade hair.

Maintenance is everything. Brushing twice daily, washing with sulfate-free products, and keeping appointments extends the life of your extensions significantly.

Heat styling and chemical treatments. Excessive heat or color processing shortens lifespan. Extensions can't repair themselves like natural hair.

How much you wear them. If you frequently wear updos or protective styles, your extensions will experience less wear than if you heat-style daily.

✦

SIGNS IT'S TIME TO REPLACE

The hair starts to tangle more easily, even with regular brushing.

The ends look dry or frayed and don't respond to conditioning treatments.

The color has faded significantly or looks dull compared to when they were new.

The texture has changed — the hair doesn't hold style or feels rough.

✦

COST OVER TIME

While the initial investment is higher, quality extensions are more cost-effective long-term because you're not constantly replacing them.

Move-up appointments cost significantly less than new installations since you're reusing the same hair.

Budget for move-ups every 6-8 weeks if you choose hand-tied or tape-in. Keratin bonds require less frequent maintenance but higher replacement costs when the time comes.
