SEATTLE HAIR EXTENSIONS @_westside_style_
HAND-TIED MAINTENANCE

HOW OFTEN DO THEY NEED TIGHTENING?

Tightening happens at move-up appointments every 6-8 weeks.

TIGHTENING SCHEDULE

Hand-tied wefts don't need separate tightening appointments. Bead tightening happens during your move-up appointments every 6-8 weeks.

As your natural hair grows, the beaded rows grow down away from your scalp. At your move-up, the beads are tightened and repositioned back to the scalp.

This is all part of the standard maintenance cycle. You're not scheduling extra appointments for tightening — it's built into the move-up process.

✦

WHAT HAPPENS DURING TIGHTENING

The wefts are unsewn from the beaded rows so we can access the beads. The extension hair is set aside temporarily.

Each bead is checked for security. If a bead has loosened slightly, it's tightened. If it's worn or damaged, it's replaced with a fresh one.

The beads are slid back up to your scalp to account for hair growth. This brings the rows back to their original position near the roots.

The wefts are re-sewn onto the freshly tightened rows. Everything is secure, flat, and ready for another 6-8 weeks of wear.

✦

SIGNS YOUR ROWS NEED ATTENTION

It's been 6-8 weeks. Even if everything feels fine, staying on schedule prevents issues before they start.

You feel looseness in a row. If one or more rows feel like they're shifting or moving, reach out immediately. Don't wait for your scheduled appointment.

The rows have grown noticeably down. When you can feel the rows mid-length on your head instead of near your scalp, it's time for repositioning.

Increased tangling near the wefts. When rows grow too far down, hair tangles more easily at the attachment points.

✦

WHY TIMING MATTERS

Regular tightening keeps everything secure and prevents slipping. Loose beads can shift or slide, which stresses your natural hair.

Staying on schedule protects your natural hair from damage. When rows grow too far down, the weight distribution changes and can cause breakage.

Proper maintenance extends the lifespan of your extension hair. Hair that's cared for properly lasts a year or longer.
