You lost the weight. Now your ponytail feels thinner. Here's what's happening and how to get your fullness back while it grows in.
Hair shedding is a known side effect of GLP-1 medications like semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound), and women report it more often than men.
In most cases the medication isn't attacking your hair. Fast weight loss and eating much less, especially less protein, push a large number of hairs into the resting phase at the same time. A few months later they fall out together. It's the same kind of shedding many women notice after having a baby or a major surgery.
It usually shows up two to four months after the weight starts coming off, as overall thinning: a wider part, a smaller ponytail, more hair in the brush and the shower drain.
For most women, yes. Shedding typically settles once your weight stabilizes, and new growth fills in over the following six to twelve months.
But hair grows about half an inch a month, so getting back to the fullness you had can take a year or more. That's a long time to feel self-conscious about your hair while the rest of you feels great.
If shedding is heavy or doesn't slow down, talk to your doctor. Low iron, vitamin D, or protein can make it worse, and they're easy to check.
The goal here isn't dramatic length. It's fullness: a few lightweight panels placed where you've thinned, color-matched so they blend with your own hair.

Tape-ins and hand-sewn wefts are usually the best fit. Both are light, lie flat, and spread weight across a wide area instead of loading individual strands.
As your own hair grows back, we adjust at each move-up appointment. Many clients use fewer panels over time, and some stop once their hair has filled back in.
Extensions need healthy hair to attach to. If you're in the middle of heavy shedding, it may be better to wait until it slows down.
That's what the free consultation is for. Jenn looks at your hair in person, checks how much healthy hair you have to work with, and tells you honestly whether now is the right time and which method fits. If it's too early, she'll tell you that too.
